College Astronomy Professor in Hawaii
Roy Gal is a college professor in Hawaii. Its is currently 2:15pm where he is while its 6:15 for us. He teaches astronomy class of two levels. One of his classes is for advanced (third year of college) and another class for beginners, where they learn the basics of astronomy.
Things we discussed:
.different types of black holes
. the data can go straight from the telescope from the computer, but you used to write the information down by hand
. our brains are designed to recognize\ visualize things one hundred times bigger than us and one hundred times smaller than us
. we only understand about 4% of the universe, there is 96% that we don't know in the universe
. we now use technology that will warn us two to three days before something like an asteroid hits Earth
. some of the gases that make up the Earth's vacuum are acids and methane
. he loves questions and has a question of the week time with his students. They come up with questions to ask in class and he tries to answer all of them
