International Space Station Pre-Event Work

Competition to Collaboration

Our students at Briarhill Middle School will be working with a class in Cheboksary, Russia. The purpose is to develop a knowledge of the history of both the United States and Russian space programs, and to develop an understanding of the importance of collaboration when working toward similar goals.

We will create a timeline of each country’s space program history, and do research on the astronauts that are on the ISS, along with the work they are doing.   We will create this collaboratively with our friends in the Russian class. We will video conference with each other 3 times in the next 3 months and discuss our research, and timelines. During the video conferences we will quiz each other and have a friendly competition to see who can create a paper airplane that flies the furthest. This work will help us prepare for our big Feburary 14th event, where Briarhill will video conference with the International Space Station! We are very excited about talking with the astronauts about the work they are doing up there. This video conference will be broadcasted live on NASA TV and youtube. We hope you will be able to watch.
