Brazil
For our next stop, we are going to Belo Horizonte, Brazil which is the capital of Brazil. Today he was showing us the cities downtown area, which according to him is not very pretty. He also mentioned that it can sometimes be dangerous, especially at night time. Next, he talked to us about the holidays they celebrate which include Carnival and Mardi Gras. Some other things he talked to us about was what make the cities beautiful. One thing that makes the cities special is some of the architecture in the city, as well as just the heritage. Unfortunately, there is not much history behind the city.

Mystery Call
For this mystery call, we happened to end up in the Netherlands. We asked yes or no questions to figure out their location, and finally guessed it. One of our first questions, which was answered with a yes, was "Are you in Europe?" They didn't know who we were either, so they asked us questions as well. They correctly guessed that we were in the United States, as well that we were in Texas. However, we figured it out first, and they found it out shortly after. So far, we have guessed that they are in a school west of Amsterdam, in a town called Kwintsheul. It is currently 9 am on March 13th where they live. We learned how to say hello in their language. It is hallo or hoi.

St. Petersburg, Russia
We visited Lana at Russia. She was on a canal that leads to a fancy church named the church of resurrection. They have a special holiday where they try to make the winter go away, because they have 6 month winters. Their favorite foods involve pumpkin soup, onion soup, tomato soup, and pretty much all else soup! The Kazan Cathedral was shown to us, and it has been standing for more than 100 years. We also learned that after students graduate 9th grade, they go to college, or what they call, university. Even though Russia looks huge, and is right near china, they haven't had many cases of the corona virus, which is very good. Thank you so much Lana for the great tour! -Matthew
Antarctica
For our 8th stop, we're visiting Antarctica to talk to a scientist from The University of Wisconsin. We learned that to get down to The South Pole, you have to take a flight to New Zealand and then take a flight on the C-17 so they are safe when they land in Antarctica. Next they showed us a slide show of what it is like living in the Ice Cube Observatory, including where they sleep. Next they told us about what the weather including how they store food and what they have to do to get water. Today, the temperature in Antarctica got to -58℉!!!
Dinosaur National Monument, Utah
It is currently 5:08p.m and we are interviewing Ranger Molly from the Dinosaur Park in Utah for our 6th call. This park contains 1,500 exposed dinosaur bones and fossils on a wall that is built into the building. There have been new species dug up and discovered in this park. We learned that through the sediments in rocks you can tell when the fossil or bone was placed. The dinosaurs were preserved through mud inside of a past river. Other species such as crocodilians, old crocodiles, and marine reptiles, which are distantly related to dinosaurs but are not dinosaurs. At this park, there are also a couple rivers that you can raft through and hiking trails to hike on. The pictures below show Ranger Molly explaining the different types of fossils found here and the outdoor geography of what the park looks like.
Marshall Islands
We got to see a traditional dance from the 7th graders. They put a lot of effort into the dance to make it great. They have just recently shut down the borders because of the corona virus. they have no planes or ships from there to go to anywhere in the world, not even to the United States. It takes them 15 minutes to cross the island long ways, and it is a one minute car drive from end to end. They had questions for us too! Some examples are, what is your favorite subject, why are we doing the world tour, and why is Briarhill named Briarhill. -Matthew
Marshall Islands
We are visiting the Marshal Islands. We are visiting an Elementary school in the Martial Islands while they have an assembly. They are so excited to see us and answer some of our questions. We asked them what time it was, and it was Friday at 8 A.M. when it was Thursday at 3:25 P.M. here! Today was a uniform free day for the kids at Co-op Elementary School! Instead of singing the pledge to the two flags like we do at school, they sing the National Anthem. Unlike us, they are not required to put their hand over their heart when singing. After the elementary kids left, we did some Tiktok dances with the high school kids. -Matthew
Ford's Theater in Washington DC
For our next call we visited Washington D.C/ Ford's Theater and we spoke with Alex. Our interviewer's were Emerson and Alyssa. The Ford's Theater was were President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated.
We learned about the Presidential box where all the presidents would sit and about how many presidents had sat in it. When President Lincoln was assassinated many people thought it was part of the show. After the president died Mary Todd Lincoln, his wife, was so upset that she locked herself in a room in the White House for 40 days and did not attend his funeral. While she was locking herself up many doctors, family and friends visited her but couldn't convince her to leave. Eventually her son put her in an insane asylum because she couldn't handle Lincoln's death.
After the assassination the government made the theater into a three story office building. Later on in the 1930's they made the theater into a museum. In the 1960's they began to restore the theater. In the 1960's-1968 they premiered their first play since the accident. After that the theater became a hot spot because people wanted to see where the assassination happened. When they were restoring the theater they re-created it from crime scene pictures!
Underneath the theater they have a museum containing many old artifacts from the assassination , including the weapon John Wilkes Booth used to kill President Lincoln. On the President's birthday they put a wreath on the stage to commemorate him. They just uncovered a letter from the 1930's about an argument on wether the gun that was used to kill Lincoln should be displayed or not.
Lincoln and Mary had 4 sons. Unfortunately, 3 of their four sons died while Lincoln was alive. The first son who passed was Eddie from cancer. The next who died was Willie from thyroid fever. After their sons death Mary wore black the rest of her life and President Lincoln added a black strip on his hat.
We are so glad we got to call the Fords Theater and we learned so much! Thank you for calling us!

Monticello- Home of Thomas Jefferson
Our second stop is a mystery call. We are trying to figure out who's house we are in by asking the person questions, having them answer, and looking around for clues. So far we know she's in a famous historical figure's house in the United States, on the East Coast.
Now we know that the house is in Virginia and the person who lived in the house had connections with Robert E Lee.

Now we know that the house is in Virginia and the person who lived in the house had connections with Robert E Lee.
One of the students guessed correctly! We are in Monticello. It was the house of our 3rd president, Thomas Jefferson! Monticello currently has 21 rooms. Old Monticello was built using the resources on the land it was being built on. Jefferson had many rooms for recreational activities, including playing the violin and writing. He had many bookshelves in his home to store all his law books and other informational studies. The Library of Congress was started when Thomas Jefferson donated all of his books. His house is full of artifacts from all around Europe. Monticello means "little mountain". Monticello was of course, built on a hill.

Boston Massachusetts/Freedom Trail
This is the first call of our annual 24 Hour World Tour. We are talking to Rebecca and she is showing us the Freedom Trail. The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile long path that takes you deep down Boston's history. It happens to connect 16 different historic sites. First, we are looking at The Granary Burying Grounds on the Freedom Trail. There are at least 3,000 bodies buried in this burial ground, but since not all bodies are recorded, we expect that there would actually be around 7,000. These grounds are located right next to Park Street Church that was built in 1809. She then told us about the famous historical figures that impacted our history, including Paul Revere, John Hancock, and Samuel Adams. Both John Hancock and Paul Revere's gravestones were built in the nineteenth century and are much more modern than expected.
